The Café Mangii located at Orion Mall is amidst a few other restaurants on the floor, with a large open air section, and a small seating area inside near their kitchen. The outdoors is beautiful, overlooking the World Trade Centre, and the water fountains. Reaching this place on a week day combatting traffic from another side of town isn’t easy, but the evening air and a nice cool sip of November Breeze made things better that evening as we sat down for our Bloggers’ Table. This event was a preview of their Annual Sizzler Festival that’s running across August and September, particularly well-suited for the weather which sees bouts of monsoon rush bringing in dips in temperature.

Meet the Chef Souvik

There is an array of sizzler selections created for this year, bringing in delectable meat and unique flavors. The vegetarians have a choice of Grilled Cottage Cheese and Pepper Steak, Potato, Corn & Jalapeno Steak in Basil Pesto sauce and Crispy polenta with Ratatouille. We got these out of the kitchen in the first round. The plating was neat, despite each sizzler being accompanied by grilled vegetables and herbed risotto. The sauces were usually served on the side, while the sizzler itself came with its bit of the sauce as well, but not doused in it. The cottage cheese was a classic, while the grilled polenta cake on a bed of ratatouille was definitely very creative.
The non-vegetarian selection was varied and exquisite. The rusty chicken was delicately cooked meat in pepper sauce served with mushroom risotto, definitely my recommendation. The grilled lamb chops in rosemary was another favorite of the evening. The meat was tender and juicy, charcoal grilled just right with the jus adding extra flavors. The Norwegian salmon was also quite an amazing dish, with bokchoy and orange beurre blanc, giving it a very innate sweet and tangy taste.

As an accompaniment between the sizzlers, we also had a couple of their house pizzas served in. Thin crust wood fire pizza, with sea food, meat and vegetarian toppings were devoured almost as soon as they were served. They also had these batter fried spinach, crackling and perfect to munch on. While they don’t have this on their menu yet, it was definitely a star appetizer!
