For those not staying in or frequenting South Bangalore, URU may be one of the many breweries and restaurants that have popper up in the area over the last couple of years. But the familiar folks know that URU has a restaurant, cafe, bistro, brewery, gin garden and more. So really is a destination worth checking out, and recommending. A beautiful space in JP Nagar, opposite a mall and next to a rather tall circular high rise, built by the company that also own URU. A very nice and rather convenient hang out area for the residents indeed! The food selection, variety in beverages, the massive space and the vibe of the place ensure there’s something for everyone. It’s actually great to work out of, have meetings and catch up with friends, or host private events. And this post is about a curated event experience from URU.

Dine Under The Stars at URU

Soups & Appetisers

We attended the 3rd edition of “Dine Under The Stars” at URU Brewpark in December. It is a dining experience with a curated menu, paired with wine or cocktails. And a new cuisine to explore in every edition, usually on a Wednesday. Nothing like a midweek indulgence! So far they’ve had Italian, Mediterranean and Inspired French! And a little bird tells me, next up is a very special menu featuring modern Indian! Well we made it to the Inspired French, almost by design, given our love for the cuisine! The dinner featured a 9 course gourmet French inspired menu paired with Sula wines curated by Executive Chef Abhilash Chalil. Did you know URU had two executive chefs?! Well, Bangalore doesn’t have many of these concept dinners, and it’s great that URU has created this unique experience as a brand. This is usually once a month, with limited seating, and available on prior booking only. We missed the previous iterations. But met many guests who’ve come for the preceding ones as well, and spoke very highly of their experiences.

The French Inspired Meal

Wine, beer shots and us!

This menu was inspired French, featuring some interesting dishes like Baked Persimmon and lamb liver, served with raisin compote, a lovely start of sweet sauce and meaty flavours. Enjoyed the fish stew, but also asked for some French Onion soup which was awesome too! The beet root risotto, Atlantic salmon and pork galantine followed, and quickly got gobbled up. The portion sizes were a tad too much for a 9 course meal, but conversations and wine kept us going! A much needed lentil ragout salad slowed the pace after the lychee champagne sorbet. And the chef’s rendition of Chicken Cordon Bleu was brilliantly done, loved it from the meat to the sides, everything! The vegetarians had some interesting dishes as well, like a melon steak and yam salad. Unconventional, inspired and really sumptuous portions – it wasn’t easy to last through the courses, but we did well I think 🙂

The Last Word

The dinner inclusive of paired drinks comes at a fantastic price point of 2750 + taxes and I definitely recommend it. We walked around the space a bit, spread over an acre, with different layouts and experiences. I love how minimalistic it is, and the openness makes it all closer to nature. Check out the URU page for their pop up menus and events!
