There aren’t a very many sports bars around JP Nagar to speak of. So when the Underdoggs chain from Gurgaon, opened up their first outlet in the city, it’s a place I was curious to try out. And when they organized a Beer Pong and Game day, there I was, with Prashanth – who literally stays walking distance from the venue. The setup is exactly how a sports bar should be, several large and mid-sized screens for viewing games, foosball and pool tables lined up on both the floors, a long bar and bar stools and swivel chairs for seating. We reached around 5, and the bar was brightly lit. We had a set menu for the event, covering their offerings of pizza, wings, shots, and some Underdoggs signature snacks.

Tandoori Chicken Dimsums

The Hot Ranch pizza brought out a wave of hot pepper aroma – and was delicious. Thin crust, and suitably cheesy and loaded. The Tandoori dim sums were really different and I loved them. Masala coated and grilled momos, stuffed with chicken (or veggies), and served with a hot, hot sauce. The wings didn’t really hit the spot. We tried their Harissa, Desi Spice and Butter Chicken – and while the sauce had the flavor, the chicken didn’t really imbibe the spices well. There was a chicken chaat that I liked – well more of onions, chaat masala and chicken – but an interesting dish nevertheless. The winner of that evening’s food was definitely their signature Naan Roll. That comes with various toppings, and the Bhuna Murg that I had was hot and delicious with butter naan! In fact I went back later and ordered just that, a meal in itself!

Another Mocktail!

In a set menu, there isn’t a lot you can experiment with, and our drinks options were a tad limited. There were some specials like Litchi shots, Gayle Rum Runner and some mocktails that did rounds, and were quite nice, though not necessarily potent. The dessert of ice cream and jamun however, was LOADED with rum! The place is great to catch up for a game or even play a round on the tables. It’s spacious, funky and keeps the vibe going. They organize events for groups, and have reasonable pricing. Here’s to seeing Underdoggs bring in some fun to JP Nagar!
