In the last few years, we have seen a lot of new age pubs coming into the scene, making good hang outs with interesting ambiance that are affordable as well. And no longer are the pubs only known for being watering holes; they have broadened their horizons to focus on gastronomic indulgences and even music/stand up performances, making them more than ‘just a pub’. Here’s my top 4 favorite beer hang outs.

My Bar (Quarterdeck), located in Koramangala, above Kobe Sizzlers’, is aimed at the fun loving, young crowd of the city. There’s an indoor level with good music, and a small roof top area, the upper deck, which has music at slightly lower decibel, but definitely a great place to hang out with friends. They have happy hours until 7, and have a pretty exhaustive food menu offering quick bites and finger food as well as curries and mains at good prices.

Must haves: Chicken Pepper Fry, Shake Shake Fries, Cuban Dog, Chilli Dog, Chilli Potatoes.

Monkey Bar initially in Richmond Road and later also opened in Indiranagar, is a really dynamic and fun place to hang out. They have bar games and great beers. A quirky menu, cozy interiors and fun staff keep the spirits high and enthusiastic. They also serve good breakfasts. The Richmond Road outlet is a little small, so some waiting may be in the cards if you decide to drop in during the weekend, but well nothing you can’t do with some beer while playing foosball!

Must haves: Spiked nachos, Butterfly Chicken, Caramelized Ribs, Tiger Beef.

Mother Cluckers is my pick on this list. Dark interiors with insulting posters, mighty sized board menus; this makes the perfect after work hang out/drinking place. An amazing long list of juicy, epic burgers and hot wings with different degrees of hot sauces, very friendly service, brilliant music; the owners of Plan B followed their first act with this great place.

Must haves: Fiery Clucker, BBQ Pork Burger, Angry Clucker, Jalapeno Poppers.

Church Street Social – An eclectic place with a unique style and tabloid menu, minimal frills décor, old type writers and deconstructed drinks makes this place an experience every time. Serving small and sharing platters and great desserts, despite its prime location, Social has kept its pricing at an optimal low, making this not just a hip place but also one where you can spend hours chilling out. They are always full, so a reservation is a must, or a really long wait. They host open mics and stand up events, keeping things bustling and interesting @socialoffline.

Must haves: Cocktails, barbeque platter, Awesomosas, Chicken Wing, Wow Baos, Layer Cake
